LO1 - Task 1, Animation Planning

Form
I have chosen to do a fantasy styled short film animation as I believe something light-hearted appeals to a much wider audience and also offers many more opportunities for where the story can go. It's purpose will be to entertain a children.

Animation type
I will be doing a stop motion animation as I feel this will be the best way for me to show off my artistic skills and create a vibrant story world. I also prefer the simplistic 2D style of it as it will probably appeal more to the younger audience I am hoping to target.

Genre/style
As I would like my animation to be suitable for children it will fit into the fantasy genre and be something the whole family could watch.

Narrative/Characterisation
The narrative of my animation will follow a girl that wakes up, having lost her memories, in the middle of a raining woodland at night. Upon getting up she quickly tries to get out of the forest and to a populated area, and stumbles upon an empty village. The protagonist goes into an inn she spots and is greeted by a man that explains everyone has left to move to higher ground as the sky hasn't stopped 'crying' for days after one of the stars fell from it. Hearing the story she recalls that she is the star and is told by the hotel owner to go and climb 'the giant'- a tree big enough that she should be able to return to the sky from it. When reaching the top of the tree the moon spots her and returns her to her place in the sky.
The story will be told by a single narrator and he will describe the fear and confusion felt by the girl so the viewer becomes more emotionally attached to her and feel sympathetic to her cause.
